Hi, I’m Emma, founder of The Village It Takes. I believe kids are brilliant, families are complex, and stories are one of the best tools we have to make sense of it all. With a background in sociology and restorative justice, plus nearly two decades of working with children and families, I show up as a creative, curious, and imperfect human. My work is about helping families reflect, connect, and build new narratives — with humor, heart, and quite a bit of mess.
BOOTS
She/Her
Orange and white, friendly, and brave — Boots is something of a rarity in the cat world (orange females are few and far between). She greets every visitor like an old friend and is known to flop dramatically onto her side, inviting pets from anyone lucky enough to meet her. Boots has starred in many a TVIT story and game, and her steady presence has helped Emma through chapters that required courage and tenderness. Rolling around for belly rubs is her chosen form of trust-building.
HOMBRE
He/him
Twice the size of his sister and sporting blue, slightly-crossed eyes, Hombre is equal parts discerning and tender. He’s sparing with his social interactions with humans, though never shy about announcing when it’s time for the humans to stop what they are doing to pet him. His habit of sprawling across Emma’s laptop has directly delayed more than one email reply — and he would argue that this is a public service. Snuggly yet independent, Hombre brings joy and gravity in equal measure, proving that sometimes the best co-workers have fur.
